In reply to: Michael McGuire posted an update ViewLast night’s (20/2/12) long pose. Progress in some respects, but I overworked some parts of the drawing I feel (it looked better after 45 minutes).

In reply to: Michael McGuire posted an update ViewThe long pose from last Monday night. Sorry, Lucy, that I managed to make you look a little too skeletal! But I’m pleased with the overal light effect. It’s 65cm x 50cm soft pastel on Murano paper.

In reply to: Michael McGuire posted an update ViewTracy from last Monday. I pushed the shadow colour a bit more than usual. But it was fun to do and I like it. It’s soft pastel on 65cm x 50cm Murano paper.

In reply to: Michael McGuire uploaded a new picture: A Christmas Dream (… Well, Catherine looked like she was sleeping! My last of 2011. Some drawing errors as usual, partly because I didn't have enough time to correct them […] ViewThanks Alan. Glad you liked this. I know what you’re saying regarding lines, and I will probably experiment a little in that direction. But my real interest lies in developing form through tonal and, more particularly, colour shifts. So I will most likely try some oil painting also in 2012.

Well, Catherine looked like she was sleeping! My last of 2011. Some drawing errors as usual, partly because I didn't have enough time to correct them and it's not a particularly good likeness either. But there's a lot I'm pleased with about this drawing, particularly the face and hair, where I got much more confident and deliberate with my final…[Read more]-
Michael, this is great. I would try to add a bit of drawing to the pastel to show some character, maybe with a dark blue or purple line, but good job!

In reply to: Michael McGuire uploaded a new picture: The Birthday Boy The artist's birthday! But Darren struck a great pose under the stage lighting. The left shoulder is a bit too visible relative to the right shoulder and […] ViewThanks Paddy. I actually had it much more pronounced at one stage, but it looked wrong (probably a bit off position), so I fudged it in the hope that no one would notice – should have known better!! I think the strong ”competition” on Monday evenings has spurred me on!

In reply to: Michael McGuire uploaded a new picture: Lucy's Back It was very warm on the stage, so as someone who thinks its warm when everyone else feels cold, I suffered for my art with this one. A bit too blended perhaps, […] ViewI was going to leave the apostrophe out, because I liked the anbiguity! For a fellow that claims that life drawing is a hobby your getting very good at it!! if I have one small criticism it would be that this piece displays a concentration on ” portrait” and needs a little more definition on the left clavicle bone to connect the the head to the torso ! but hey! 1+ 1/2 hour well done excellent likeness!

I meant the right clavicle bone!
