The artist's birthday! But Darren struck a great pose under the stage lighting. The left shoulder is a bit too visible relative to the right shoulder and arm, but that aside, there's a lot I'm happy with about this drawing. A step forward hopefully in a direction I want to go.-
For a fellow that claims that life drawing is a hobby your getting very good at it!! if I have one small criticism it would be that this piece displays a concentration on ” portrait” and needs a little more definition on the left clavicle bone to connect the the head to the torso ! but hey! 1+ 1/2 hour well done excellent likeness!

Thanks Paddy. I actually had it much more pronounced at one stage, but it looked wrong (probably a bit off position), so I fudged it in the hope that no one would notice – should have known better!! I think the strong ”competition” on Monday evenings has spurred me on!

It was very warm on the stage, so as someone who thinks its warm when everyone else feels cold, I suffered for my art with this one. A bit too blended perhaps, but I didn't have enough time to capture all the subtle variations in discreet marks.-

I was going to leave the apostrophe out, because I liked the anbiguity! And she was away too (she modelled just before the Opera Festival and this was a few weeks after that)!

Just realised that I haven't posted anything here since March (might have something to do with quality or lack thereof). But I started using soft pastels instead of conte recently and I'm a bit more pleased with the results.-

The long pose from last Monday night. Sorry, Lucy, that I managed to make you look a little too skeletal! But I’m pleased with the overal light effect. It’s 65cm x 50cm soft pastel on Murano paper.
